Thumbs up Thats My Girl

My oldest(16) entered the teen poet contest again this year at the public lib.
And she won 2 place with a 50 $prize. She has won 3 other times and one of the times actuly got 1 place. She read her work last night along with the other winners at the lib. we had fun.
I thought it would be fun to share her poems here as none of us are 16 and the view is a bit refreshing from a youngsters eyes. hope some of you all enjoy them like I do.

YOURS By Halei-April'07
A sense of wonder
Marked by keen Intent
Hopeless abandon ,
No need for consent .
Fingers scraping madly
Against limits never touched,
Steady grasp on unreality
Distant dreams firmly clutched .
Relentless imagination
Incessantly stirring,
Ingenious prowess
Fixed boundaries blurring .
No questions to answer
Just answers to questions,
Palming the world
In observational discretion .
Glimpses of decades
Years meekly surrendered ,
Centuries of progress
Time never to render .
Confident inquiry
Dissolving closed doors ,
Infinitely entreating
The world? It’s yours .

----------stealing is bad--------------------------------

Only Freshmen By Halei April’07

Nervous shuffling against freshly waxed floors,
Eager clusters forming beside closed doors.
Burnt orange metal swinging and clanging,
Sea of new faces, constantly changing.
Sent of fresh new books, fresh cloths and perspectives,
Anxious greeting paired with expressions reflective.
Days fading, weeks passing, lives slipped away.
Whirl of words, dulled memories, august blurring into may.
Sorrow-soaked departures marking lives, moving on
Tear stained farewells linger damp, long gone
Searching for the thief, times burglar so swift,
Just another year swept away left adrift.

Ruler Of The Road- By Halei ,April’07

Axels aching,
Chrome hood baking,
Sweaty palms against the wheel.
Engine churning,
Youthful yearning,
Plastic card to seal the deal.
Wheels in rotation
Thrilling sensation,
Widened eyes in rapturous gleam.
Knuckles whitened,
Pedestrians frightened,
Eager face just graced 16.
Turn signal blinking,
Fuel gauge sinking,
Allowance surrendered to petroleum needs.
Lead foot on the pedal,
Royal chariot of metal,
Parents reluctant to relinquish the keys.
Slow shifting gears,
Passengers in fear,
Immensely relived to arrive alive.
Independence achieved,
It’s rather hard to believe,
I’ve been granted my license to drive.
