It would really be better if he had ordered an MRI instead of X-rays. X-rays won't show the soft tissue, like the discs (which could be bulging or herniated) like the MRI will. X-rays only show bone.

I don't know why doctors order X-rays for stuff like this when they're going to end up having to order an MRI later anyway. Seems useless to me, but I'm no doctor.
