Anxiety, burnout
Hi!
I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and a serious blockage just before my second birthday. I underwent emergency surgery immediately and had a shunt put in (1980). I'm now 34, have attended university and work as a freelance translator. I was monitored regularly by psychologists and a neurologist, until the age of ten and since I was developing as normally as possible was told to only come back if I had problems. I had one CAT scan at 19 due to severe headaches, but it was just due to sleep deprivation. The only real problems I've had are crappy balance and I take a bit longer to learn new thing, but have an average IQ.
I have always been easily overwhelmed and prone to headaches, if stressed or tired, but now have been on anti-depressants for a few years mainly due to work related anxiety. Is this common with patients who have a shunt?
