I know there are guys with nasty catheter tales. It isn't just a girlie problem.

When my grandson was two, he had to go to the ER with a bad viral infection. The idiot nurse took 15 minutes getting the IV in and he has good veins that don't roll. When it came time to put in the cath. she poked that poor baby 10 times before I pushed her out of the cubicle and asked the doctor to call upstairs for a pediatric nurse with good aim. By this time, the little guy was hysterical and would not let anyone outside the family touch him. The doc got a pediatric nurse who took one look at him and said the poor kid had been abused in her opinion. She requested that they give him a mild sedative in the IV and let her rock him for about ten minutes and bond with him. By the time the meds kicked well, he was cooing, giggling and thought the new nurse was his best friend. Naturally, she slid that sucker in on the first try before the child knew what was going on.
BTW the last time I was hospitalized, the floor nurses were having trouble getting the cath in and I requested that they stop and get a pediatric nurse. They did it. End of problem.
