Default Pain in side of husband's foot diagnosed as Neuropathy

I have Neuropathy and suffer from burning foot pain, plus leg pain. Have it pretty well controlled most of the time. However, my husband is in a care home and has a pain in the side of his right foot..nowhere else. They have diagnosed it as Neuropathy and put him on Gabapentin and he still has the pain. He is a diabetic and in April he had OsteoMylitis surgery and had several bones removed from his foot, and had 23days of a daily IV of Daptomycin. Was told if it occured again he might lose toes or his foot. I am concerned that this is more of the same and not neuropathy. Has anybody ever heard of a small area on only one foot being called Neuropathy? The facility where he is living ignores my complaints that I do not believe he is correctly diagnosed. He was living at home when he had the earlier surgical episode.
