Default Chat Online With Timothy Miller, Sharon Hesterlee On May 3

CHAT ONLINE WITH TIMOTHY MILLER, SHARON HESTERLEE ON MAY 3
Research in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) will be the subject of a special online chat with neuroscientist and neurologist Timothy Miller of the University of California-San Diego (UCSD) and MDA Vice President of Translational Research Sharon Hesterlee. The chat will be held at 4 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 3.

Miller’s ALS research centers on antisense therapy, designed to block abnormal RNA instructions that would otherwise result in an ALS-causing SOD1 protein molecule. Miller and colleagues have reported increased survival rates in ALS rats treated with SOD1 antisense molecules. They’re planning a clinical trial, with MDA support, for 2008.

Hesterlee oversees MDA funding of research designed to move new drug targets into the clinic as rapidly and efficiently as possible.

To participate in this special online event, please register with MDA Chat by e-mailing mdachat@mdausa.org. If you already take part in chats on MDA’s Web site, please join in using your usual nickname and password.
