The thing with fireman is he didn't have fusion surgery -- he just had the laminectomy/diskectomy. So he wouldn't need "revision" surgery. He'd just need the hole made bigger. Isn't that a possibility? I know that's a fairly big surgery, but seems like it needs to be done! Correct?

Something needs to be done, that's for sure.
