Erika, what an interesting topic!
I know that this is completely different, but when I was performing and living on cruise ships a few years ago, I was told by one of the ship's nurses that living surrounded by metal construction was very bad for one's overall health.
As our cruise ship cabins were all metal--walls, ceilings, floors--she felt that we would all be getting health problems at some point.
Since I was already having the beginnings of my MS back then, as well as a full spate of auto-immune problems, I don't think that three years on board the ship harmed me significantly--but you never know!
