I think that it is important not to push the body too hard with any form of exercise. Best to go slow and then wait to see how the body reacts. Sometimes everything goes just fine afterwards, but then again there are times when the backlash isn't worth it.
I have been doing yoga for over 30 years; but have had to customize some of the poses in that time in order to accommodate my body's changing "uniqueness", as well as to avoid some nasty backlash reactions. For instance, most poses that involve a head low position are out of the question for me; as they lead to dizziness, loss of balance and neck spasms.
A cross country ski machine is relied upon for cardio and to exercise the legs and arms when I don't get enough outdoor walking, yard work etc.
With love, Erika
