I was on effexor too (after a long list of other things that didn't work) and felt the same way.
Turns out I needed something else in addition to the effexor in order to fully deal with my depression. I started out with a very low dose of risperdal and now have switched over to abilify. I'm finally feeling human for the first time in a long time!
