There is an algae derived source now, for both EPA and DHA, but the EPA is not as high in a regular fish oil.

Females convert flax ALA into EPA and DHA in the body eventually. Taking the fish oil is just faster.
Males are much lower in this conversion however.

I am having problems finding which algae are safe to consume,
and which are connected to the BMAA toxin, found in blue green algae sold as supplements commonly. (linked to CNS degenerative disorders recently)

It is not harvested but grown commercially in vats.
