Default I think it means

that things are getting better. Usually when nerves regrow and 'reconnect', the tinglings, some zeeps and zaps occur as the nerves try and figure out what to do and where to go. It's usually more random and intermittent in it all, even the pains, as those nerves aren't and don't grow in any precise regular way.
As long as it's in an area affected and not a new one, just new 'feelings' THINK GOOD THINGS!

This is an area that very little research is being done other than nerves in the brain and spine...the bigger nerves. Most work seems to focus on why they die and how.

Melody, ask Alan if he feels as if he's walking on something like styrofoam packing peanuts...if so, then things are truly improving.

I warn you all, these strange sensations tend to come and go, randomly and without warning. Just don't stress yourself out of improvement because it's strange. Thinking positively about new strange is better than absolutely NOTHING! - j
