Its amazing how many dont know about people with autism having rages or anger to do harm. My son Adam who will be 12 in Aug was FINALLLLLLLLY diagnosed with PDD-NOS this past week. I have tried telling people for 11 YEARS that he has a form of autism but professionals never believed me. Family and friends saw it but the ones who NEEDED to see it didnt believe me TIL NOW.. FINALLY on my birthday ( 5-2) he was diagnosed (I believe).. Here is what I posted on another autism forum.. I know some wouldnt consider this a birthday present.. but I do.

As you know I have been trying for a LONG TIME to get Adam looked at for his behavior and rages and assesed for Aspergers/HF autism and/or Bipolar..

Well his psycologist/counselor finally stated last week that he needs to see a psychiatrist and that this was beyond ADHD (NO KIDDDDDDINGGGGGGGGG ) When the boy is having raging fits and writing papers FOR SCHOOL about how he is going to kill certain people and then last week wrote how he is going to kill all the coyotes (we live in the country) because they killed his cat and that NO ONE is going to stop him (not even his mom or dad and he isn't going to stop himself) etc.. He told me last month in a rage that he was going to kill his brother and that I was only going to have 3 sons soon. .

Well she gave me the name of one and I checked to see if he was on our insurance.. HE IS!! I called... the soonest she said they could get him in was May 30th. bummer.. I was hoping to get him in BEFORE his skin cancer treatment on the 22nd and in before school was out and get some meds started and see if it helps awhile before school is out June 7th.

Well today I happened to be home for a little bit and got a call. It was that doctors office calling me.. They told me they happened to have a cancelllation for TOMORROW (my birthday) and if it was ok to bring Adam in!!!

I SAID YES!!! That it would be a great birthday present for me. lol They could have taken ANY of thier patients they had this month but they called Adam.. I explained some of what we are dealing with on Adam and why I was hoping to get Adam in earlier than the 30th.

So I picked him up after lunch tomorrow and take him in!! I hope we can get SOME answers tomorrow.. but if not its a START!!!

So much for me going out to lunch for my birthday. lol

I go in the morning to get an injection in my foot.. MIGHT be able to squeeze something in like a late breakfast tho I dont eat much anymore since losing weight... Then go get Adam and come back into town.. LOTS of gas and driving tomorrow.. but it will be ok for that.

The appt went well!! He spent most of the appt with me and some with Adam and will spend the next appt with Adam mostly.

He does agree that Adam is probably PDD-NOS (a form of Autism/Aspergers). FINALLY after YEARS of telling people. When I told him who the regional center sent him to see (thier autism specialist) when he was 6 yrs old, the psychiatrist said he hated that guy. lol (I wonder how he REALLY FEELS lol). The OTHER guy even didnt call Adams constant hand clapping "Stimming".. He called it "Stereotypic movement disorder"

He still isnt sure about the bipolar yet. He feels Adam has depression. He says with all the medical stuff Adam is going thru and the seperation AND with having the PDD-NOS it can all cause depression and rages. He said he wont put him on anything for it yet til he see's him again but if he does it will probably be Lamatical.

I feel a load better that someone agrees with me. He said btwn him and our psycologist that is counseling Adam that they can get Adam extra help for school and home with the spectrum stuff (THANK YOU JESUS)!!!

I'm going to write him a letter to explain stuff I either forgot or couldnt explain right while there. Adam will see him again on the 15th and they are keeping our appt on the 30th. I do want to look at treating the rages because of him threatening to kill people and animals.. Tho the 15. co pays will kill me. They dont take our Medi-cal. Im going to see especially if he is giving him a diagnosis if Adam's CCS (California Childrens Services) will pick it up.

He also gave me more forms for his teachers and me to fill out. I havent looked at them yet to see if they are the ADHD forms (to see if he is getting enough Adderall) or if its for the other things.

So YES this was a good birthday.. The foot injection this morning didn't feel to swift but at least it is over when the injection is. We are trying to kill the nerves in the top of my foot so it will stop hurting.

When I talk to thier pediatrician about the rages and all she feels its more bipolar. She said she hasnt seen the rages like this in Aspergers/autism. She doesnt think he was dealing with the autism. Tho he doesnt have the rages at school. The school didnt believe he had autism because they said he is so sweet and quiet. YES because he doesn't socialize with the kids. At first he was put on the bench or detention for not doing schoolwork.. When I tell them or they realize that he doesnt play with the kids anyway they realize its not punishment anyway. lol He says by himself anyway. Others have told me that is the scary part is that because he is quiet and to himself.. those are the type that will do something and no one will believe that he was the one that would have done it.

Im so happy someone FINALLY believed me and he is going to finally get Adam some help (therapies and regional center etc.)
