Doesn't your kindle have a light control? You can make the back screen black and the writing white. The dimess can be controled on the nook. Can be a faint light that would not disturb your husband, nor glare in your eyes at night. All my books are put with that back ground black. Can be changed for daylight reading too. See if your owners manual talks about this. I can't imagin the kindle not having such a control. Yes real books are great, but if I ever have to evacuate, I can bring my library with me.
