Hi sansglee,

I know you have spent a lot of money on this tooth. The taste you are experiencing could be indicative of an infection. Root canaled teeth are unfortunately never healthy and there is always some degree of infection residing inside of the tooth because there is no access to the tiny canals, meaning the bacteria cannot be removed from those areas. When an infected tooth is closed up, the pressure from the inflammation pushes the infection through the tooth into the ligament then eventually into the bone.

Crowning a root canaled tooth does not alter the bacteria inside of the tooth. It simply covers the outside of the tooth. Instead of putting money into a crown perhaps you could wear a temporary crown for awhile to see if you are going to keep this tooth or have it removed. This is often done to see if the symptoms change (keep in mind the infection is not going away) and/or to give the patient time to decide what they want to do.

With regard to the other tooth with the cavity.... it is important to have the cavity fixed with a filling so that the decay does not progress any further. Teeth do not have to hurt when there is a problem.... most of the time they hurt when the problem has gone too far!

Let us know what you decide to do. All the best to you!

I did my Root canal, back in Dec 2012. After doing that there was some pain and sensitivity, after some days, it went off as my dentist said. But now, sometimes i feel like some water or blood( not sure, it tastes salty), and i don't know whether its coming out of gum or the same root canal tooth. I am afraid to go and check with my dentist, because for every visit they charge me 100$. i cant afford a lot, i am waiting for my crown appointment .. dental services are very expensive here in Canada. Can you please tell me from your experience what that would be ?

Another question too, my dentist told me that i have a cavity formation on other tooth too, but i don't feel the pain or anything on that tooth. that like normal, what should i do, in order to save it and stop that cavity ? i don't have money for another root canal.
Thanks for your help and time.
