I would get a second opinion from another neurologist. Neurologists are generally more forthcoming about your problem then surgeons that will turn you away if they think they don't want to work on you, which does not mean you don't have a problem.

I had one neuro tell me "its in my head, o rmaybe this or maybe that, but I could be on drugs also...)" The other extreme was "don't do anything and move next to an expert surgical center as you could be paralyzed tomorrow". They all knew what a Chiari is though, and a Syrinx.

There is a formula as to what they consider "normal"and what is borderline. If you see another neuro and get the same then they may apply that formula and feel that you are not in danger of some sort.
