Default Implant supported dentures

I have finally gotten to the point to have the wax try on fitted. It was a nightmare. My DDS decided he could not tell weather it fit or needed adjustments without removing the abutments and recapping the implant, but he did not have the correct cap size so he stuck cotton in part of my implants. Then I heard him tell the assistant to hurry, because the tissue was collapsing...hummm. I did finally tried on the wax model, made adjustments since they were not even close to fitting properly, them back to installing the abutments. This was a 2 hour procedure. Question...should the dentist remove the abutements (post stick up) to get a fit for the wax try ons? Is this normal? Any help with getting the proper fit for my permanent implant supported dentures will be appreciated. I have 7 implants. Thanks.
