Hi,
Found out somewhat sooner, myself: when I was 40 something. Will be 55 this year. My ADD most definitely effected my education, work life, and interpersonal relationships in negative ways. Have suffered from clinical depression since about 10 years of age, possibly longer. I so wanted to be "normal." Fortunately, I finally found the answer (ADD) to why/how I was different. That allowed me to start exploring strategies for dealing with it.
