Default Metoclopramide HCL (Maxeran) for migraine?

My MD prescribed Metoclopramide Hydrochloride 10mg (brand name is Maxeran) for migraine headache pain, to be taken up to 3x a day when needed.

It seems to be an off-label use because it stumped my pharmacist.

It is usually Rx'd for stomach issues. I'm baffled.

It has some scary side effects and a big nasty warning on the literature that is included, stating this medication may cause a condition known as tardive dyskinesia, (uncontrolled twitching, movements of the face, mouth, tongue, arms or legs) that is sometimes permanent.

Anyone ever been prescribed this? I did a search of the forums and found nothing.

I wonder if my doctor is way off base here. Scared to try this.
