Has anybody suggested Botox for your jaw muscles ? It is a proven treatment for overactive jaw muscles. It slowly goes away but is useful for relief from the jaw clenching misery. I was given a referral to a specialist but my clenching resolved enough before I got an appointment.

The TMJ specialist could see the additional musculature and attachment bulges in my jaw. You may be able to feel a bulge below your molars on your jaw. The Botox is injected into the muscle that you feel when you clinch your jaw. Ask about it.

I suggest you use ice on the back of your neck and the heat only on the jaw muscle. Your TMJ should be iced. Tough to do because the muscle is so close to the TMJ. I would choose ice over heat when in doubt.

My physical therapist would go inside my mouth and paralyze the jaw muscle with myofacial release technique. She could barely get her fingers in my locked up mouth. It was painful at first but thye relief was good.
