Lyrica and gabapentin work in the spinal cord to block the formation of new synapses for sensory pain... this is the newest theory.... When removed (discontinued), the pain will return, and some people do post that it can be worse.

There is no way around this potential... that anyone knows of.

People on Lyrica tend to become tolerant at lower doses, and need upping and that is worrisome too. Some people have a terrible time getting off Lyrica.
