When products list oxide with other chelates... it is the oxide that predominates. Oxide is not appreciably absorbed. Hence the SlowMag was made to encourage doctors to use a better version.
Magnesium oxide is used still because it is 40% elemental...keeping the size of the tablets down. But we now know it is useless...it is now a laxative only, Phillips caplets.
So I wouldn't count on more than a few milligrams of that magnesium being absorbed.

Magnesium stearate is also not absorbed, it remains in the bowel like the oxide does. Hence there is no therapeutic advantage to it.
Its purpose is to lubricate the flow of the powders that enter the tablet pressing machines. It is an inert excipient therefore.
