Hi and welcome. As Darlene mentions there is a forum for brain injury (TBI) and concussion.

These don’t sound like “48 year old problems”. I’m 58, have had a severe TBI within the past three years, and I don’t have the symptoms you describe.

While it is possible to have residual problems 40 years after a concussion or other brain trauma, is seems to me somewhat unlikely that the problems you describe would just start appearing now after 40 years without something else going on. Has this gone on awhile? An old concussion can make you more susceptible to problems if there is recent insult to the brain, so any recent trauma, even relatively minor could potentially trigger symptoms you describe.

Have you seen anyone professionally for these symptoms? If your insurance covers it I’s suggest a visit to a clinical neuropsychologist. Meanwhile check out the TBI/PCS forum.

Best to you.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.
