Well, I can tell you that in the case of autism, it involves a lot more than just needing someone, but I see your point. Many kids dx'ed with things like ADHD simply need structure, positive reinforcement, allergy treatment or better sleep, or other things that don't involve psychotropic drugs. It's really sad that so many doctors out there seem to be more interested in the perks they get from drug companies for prescribing their meds than in the overall welfare of the child. I was told numerous times that behavioral drugs would help my son. He takes nothing but Claritin for allergies, and he's doing wonderfully, due to an intensive behavioral program. If rhis country would focus more on addressing the behaviors and the reasons for them, we'd have much healthier kids. It's a dam* shame.
