The problem here is similar to the problem of 50% of the clinical trials being hidden from patients, doctors and researchers.
The solution is the same: individual scientists are making public whatever science data they get their hands on.
There is still a long way to go to get to Open Access, so that competition will be on evidence-based science instead of marketing-based smoke and mirrors. But the changing of the guard has started and it will become an avalanche.
