Hi Tammy,
I am sorry for what you are experiencing. I hope that someone will be able to help you. For what it is worth... I have had lots of ear symptoms along with dental symptoms for quite a while now. It is a long story, and I am not sure whether it is relevant to your situation. But I will share anyhow. I apologize in advance for the length of what I am about to write.

In January of 2011, I suddenly lost almost all of my hearing in my left ear. This was followed by roaring tinnitus in that ear and hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound). Shortly after his, I started to experience small internal vibrations or tremor-like feelings in my head and extremities. I also had balance issues and it felt like my head was too heavy for my shoulders! I noticed that I was very fatigued, could not multi-task, and cried easily. Something was definitely not right.

I went from one doctor to the next and was put on a short course of prednisone with the hope that my hearing would return. I saw my PCP, a neurologist, 2 ENT's and neurotologist. They ruled out acoustic neuroma and other things like Lyme disease and MS. I did have one lesion that the brain MRI showed, but it has not changed since that time, so the doctors believe it is a venous malformation that I was born with.

Fast forward... I later learned that I DID have Lyme disease. The testing is not always accurate for this and later testing did show that I not only had a lyme infection, but other tick born co-infections (Rocky Mountain spotted fever, erlichia and anaplasmosis). I have always loved gardening and do recall a few tick bites through the years, but no bulls eye rashes... I went to a lyme specialist for help with this and she felt that I had likely had lyme disease since 2006, when I experienced a strange summer flu. My immune system was fighting it off all those years, but in 2011, my body could no longer manage this illness. That is when I lost my hearing and other symptoms started to develop. With my hearing loss came some nerve damage, that has caused me to lose half of my vestibular functioning on the same side as my hearing loss.

I had LOTS of dental work done in the few years before my hearing loss. My teeth would bother me and the dentist could not find anything wrong with them. I was referred to endodontists, and there would be pain and sensitivity in ALL of my teeth in those locations! So I unfortunately did have a couple of root canals done as well as a dental implant on a tooth that had a failed root canal.

Recently, I learned that one of those teeth that had a root canal had become badly infected. I developed a fistula in the roof of my mouth near the tooth. The bone became infected as well. I had this tooth extracted a couple of weeks ago. I am still experiencing very strange ear symptoms with this. It includes a sensation of fullness or fluid in my ears (especially on left side), strange tinnitus that changes with certain movements as though there is a hole in the bones of my ear. Sometimes people's voices and my own voice really bother me, as though sounds are coming out of a pair of bad speakers with static or buzzing. My guess is that this is from inflammation of the 8th cranial nerve. I also have some ear pain and the sensation of a thick fluid that is moving slowly in my skull - often in the vicinity of my mastoid bone, sinuses, crown, and left side of my face. I believe these are points that the trigeminal nerves go to.

My oral surgeon doesn't know what to make of my symptoms, because they are so strange. My ENT blames this on lyme disease. I wish I knew how to get rid of these symptoms and to avoid any further hearing loss or infection. I was treated for a whole year on antibiotics and don't want to do that to my body again. I have been taking herbs and supplements to boost my immune system. With this latest infected tooth, I have been on Augmentin for one month now. Today was the last day of my prescription. I still feel as though there is an infection in there. I am still waiting for the pathology report of the extracted tooth and bone tissue. Perhaps that will shed some light. (I will post if there is anything we learn...)

I am going to see a holistic dentist who has written a book on Whole Body Dentistry in August. I hope it is okay to post names here. He is Dr. Mark Breiner. I am praying that he will be able to help me. From what I understand, dental problems can become systemic - as can Lyme disease. They both can harm your immune system and cause further damage to other organs and the nervous system. The challenge is to figure out how to stop them in their tracks...

It sounds like your ear symptoms are very recent, following the dental work. I hope that you will be able to find someone who can help you. Lyme disease does exist in India. It has spread all over the world because of bird migration. Although it is unlikely a cause, it is a possibility. Please keep us posted and feel free to private message me.
