Hey, just dropping in again. After a few, shall we say, false starts, I'm at 60 days continuous sobriety -- by far the longest stretch since I was 16 years old. My pain had spread from both feet to my knees and a little in my hands. I'm now down to just my feet but, boy, do they ache. Taking B12 and magnesium and vastly improved my diet. But the feet just hurt. Hopefully, it's because the nerves are getting better and sending more pain signals to the brain maybe??

I've found a few medical papers on this condition which I need to post links to but the bulk of them are PDF's downloaded via the NIH.

Keep the faith. The one good thing is the number of other unfortunate results of drinking that have evaporated. Thank the lord for Bill W & Dr. Bob!!

1949 days sober.

Getting cold here in Virginia...had to scrape the windows this morning on the land yacht. Feeling pretty good and praying that all of you will be strong through these Holiday parties!

Icehouse, if I could I would swap weather with you - it was 32 C (about 90 F) here yesterday and very humid.

I hope that everybody copes well with the Festive parties.

I think that I will be OK - my only big one is with the neighbours (a regular Christmas event) and the host/hostess know that I don't drink. It should be fun

I moved 12 hours south to Virginia to still find that snow falls here....I am doing something wrong.

I used to work out of Fort Lauderdale, FL and I soooo miss that weather!!!

1645 days, or halfway the 5th year.

Had some truly bad news from friends, showing once again how horrible the consequences of alcohol abuse can be. Sometimes you even get a bit of survivors guilt - even though you can never be sure you'll stay a survivor.

But I'm gonna do my darnedest.

Wide O you are an inspiration. DB asks me now each month have you posted. I'm so sorry about your friend, the consequences of alcohol abuse remain an unsold message. I wish education were better, we educate now on ICE & other drugs but alcohol in the education system is still often seen as the dodgy uncle or aunt who can't hold their booze and remains widely encouraged particularly in the hot summer festive season.
I read somewhere they are planning on banning alcohol adverts. I hope so, DB used to say in early recovery reminders are everywhere, bulletin boards, page after page in newspapers, on the radio, the TV and even big signs over the motorways and freeways.
Survivors guilt, that's harsh to deal with, there but for the grace of god go I. You hang on to being a survivor, remember you worked hard to get to where you are when it's so much easier not to choose survival. I'm sure your friend even in his last days is proud to know your hanging in.

I agree with what Pamela wrote and am sorry that you got bad news from some of your friends.

I can relate to survivor's guilt. My clinical psychologist has a wise saying about this; "Always remember that looking after yourself first is not a selfish thing to do."
