WannaGetFeelingBack, how tragic. I am so very sorry. I can't imagine how difficult that must be. I too have had some personal stressful issues arise, though nothing of your magnitude. The first thing that went was my appetite and I could not eat all yesterday and then today. I did just go food shopping and bought whatever looked good whether it was healthy or not just to encourage me to eat. Yes, just in not eating I have taken a downhill turn. In the past I would take the benzodiazepines for anxiety and to get the appetite going but I was fearful that they were contributing to the neuropathy as 10decisions suggested so proper nutrition is sometimes a trade-off. I am hopeful once things settle we can get back on track. Keep us posted on this laser therapy and in the meantime I am thinking of your and your niece's family. Such a painful time for all. So very sorry for your terrible loss.

WannaGetFeelingBack, I did think of you yesterday. I know you are no longer driving due to the numbness in your legs. Were you the one who posted way back about foot slipping off of the petal and bumping into the car in front? Yesterday when driving my foot was strange. After a light I would gun it and the car would lurch and take off or in coming to a stop I felt I had little control and instead of a nice easy stop I was not slowing down and finally had to slam on the brakes. I have had declining function but that was strange and extreme, and seemingly happened overnight. My first thought was the eating thing. Stress could also be a major factor.
Hang in through this difficult time. I know how hard it is to take care of ourselves some days, and finding balance is seemingly impossible. Hoping for better days ahead. Hugs.

Colour me tired!

17 hour day, 400 miles of driving, couple hours of heavy D.C. traffic and pedestrian dodging, the zoo, the Lincoln memorial, National Monument, Museum of Natural History, Greek gyros, Korean food and all with 4 kids and the nanny..

I bet I walked 4 miles around the heart of Washington DC yesterday. If I was not chasing kids, dodging taxis or wondering why it is sooo far between where I parked and ole Abe, I was walking and glad I did not do leg squats the night before

Icehouse, I hope to see the day when I can enjoy such an excursion. You are a wonderful success story in all regards and might be running that marathon yet.

Thank you for the kind words, SecondChances. It's so hard for those of us left behind to understand.

Yes, that was me who bumped into the car in front of me at a stoplight. I was mortified! The light was taking forever to change to green, and as each minute passed, my foot just made its way off the brake pedal without me realizing it was moving. I also had the exact same things happen that you did with accelerating and braking - the car lurched when accelerating and I often had to slam on the brakes when I was coming to a stop. It became sheer panic.

I hope you feel better! Both of us should make a pact to eat better.

SecondChances, WannaGetFeelingBack -I'm going to abbreviate you folks sorry if it offends. SecondChances aka SC & WannaGetFeelingBack aka WGFB sorry I'm not energetic enough to type in full tonight from this hospital bed.

SC, WGFB - Have you heard of SparkPeople it's a USA webpage, completely free and offers meal plans, exercise suggestions and a whole lot more. I use it to control & monitor my fibre intake along with tracking medicines, vitamins etc to see what works, it's frequently used for people to encourage weight loss but it works in reverse, you set how many calories or kilojoules you want to consume a day and it makes you meal plants to suit your circumstances.

I love it, been using it since 2008 to help with my meds, exercise, fibre intake and life in general. You can blog on it as well. It actively encourages with very slow & restricted exercises for people who are just commencing and or suffering life long conditions preventing them from pounding the pavement. In other words it's fab for the infirm with physical limitations but not the mind.

Here is the page link to join, as I said it's 100% free. There is a charge if you want to upgrade $49 for a lifetime membership, don't bother unless you become ultra committed everything you need is for free at your fingertips. My SIL has severe alcohol related PN, has zero feeling in her feet from shin down, can no longer drive goes to rehab for 3 months 28th March. Our hearts, minds & prayers are with her. My DB escaped PN but has everything else wrong it seems lol. Her story is under my DB journey to sobriety thread in bits n bobs if you want to read up. But I think you all have enough of your own to face n share. I think of you all often.

I've never really had the loss you use my legs....they have felt like they're useless but when I try to move them they have always moved more or less fine.

The hardest part for me was the burning and the tingling - can't concentrate, can't sleep, causes anxiety...

My feelings of neuropathy are very intermittent now, but I do still see a link with chocolate and even fruits high in sugar.

Has anyone got any experience with Cannabis to help with neuropathy? I know there was a study at Glasgow university which showed excellent results.

PamelaJune, Thanks much for your post. I am very interested in checking out that site.

10Decisions, smoking does not help me with the neuropathy pain though it does help with the anxiety. I thought you were relatively pain free as of late. Sorry to hear you still suffer.

If you do join SparkPeople be sure to click the box for NO emails otherwise you get bombarded. Thinking of you all. Learned today SIL is saying she is not going to go to rehab. I hope between now and then someone can convince her otherwise. The rehab clinic she will attend is for 3 months in a rural environment and $38 a week. A pittance compared to what she spends on alcohol but she is using that as her main whinge. Sadly we all know otherwise, she just doesn't want to give it up.

Pam,
Thanks for the info on the SparkPeople site, I will check it out.

I am so sorry to learn your SIL has changed her mind about going to rehab. Is the rehab daily out patient clinics? I assume for $38.00 a week; it was not providing-in-house rehab. Going back home each day would make the drinking even more difficult to avoid. She is really in a bad place.

My cousin at age 46 passed away from his alcohol abuse. When my daughter was in rehab for her drug addiction, she manage to get him to detox and attend briefly rehab. The doctor in charge of the program had warned him his liver was bad and he would not live more than 5 years if he continued his drinking. The doctor was right.

Hope and pray your SIL changes her mind.
