[FONT="Arial"]Hi I live here in Gt.Britain, i've reduced from 50ml methadone, now on 18mk which I split into a 10 and 8ml morning/evening dose, I've been self regulating this and seek advisement what route to take for toltal abstinence. Should I continue at either 2ml or even 1ml reduction every week, or should I Ask for a home detox, or to finish reducing with another medication, i'm really noticing the reductions now...Anyone out there got any suggestions

Hi ~ May I ask the reason you were on Methadone? Was it for pain control or another reason?

Where did you get your taper schedule? I think if I was having difficulty weaning off, I'd do it under my doctor's care. This is a VERY difficult drug to get off. It can be much harder than some others. If I were you, I'd ask my doc for help. He can give you a much easier taper schedule that will keep you more comfortable. A taper should be done slowly, so you won't be as likely to relapse.

If you do NOT want to see a doctor, wean as slowly as you can ~ I hope you have plenty of Methadone to wean with because you'll need it. Go as slowly as you possibly can to keep yourself comfortable. Once you are completely off, you MIGHT want to go to some meetings ~ either AA or NA, just to keep yourself clean and get some support. You really need some support right now, so meetings now wouldn't hurt.

Best of luck with whatever you decide. God bless, and remember ~ one day at a time. Peace, Lee
