Default morphine and methadone question

I have been taking morphine for 2 yrs. I ran out a few times and got really sick. I usually can get lortabs to take to stop withdraws. I went to my doctors and as for help. He would not give me anything. I have taken my last mophine today. I have someone who gave me a little methadone. I am scared to take it. Does anyone know how long I could take methadone without getting addicted. I have 50 mgs. I was thinking of taking 10 mgs a day for 5 days. The only thing other I have is tylenol 3 and klonopins. Any advice?

Default Hello tribal :)

Welcome to Neurotalk!
This is such a wonderful place full of caring people

Are you being treated for a particular pain condition?
If you are getting these meds from various sources without medical supervision, you are flirting with disaster

Here is the Medications forum link to click on......

No pain. I started taking morphine for a bladder infection. Never thought I would get addicted. And yes, I am just getting it from a friend. I'm going to try to get by without taking the methadone. I do not want another addiction.
I did try to go to my doctor for help.

Methadone has very high cardiac risks and it stays in your system longer than the meds you are used to taking.....
I'm so sorry your doctor won't help you with this!
I understand you wanting to avoid the misery of withdrawal.....I'm having to taper very slowly from the Fentanyl patch....(for Neuropathy pain).....

Maybe try using the 'search' feature at the top of the page and type in methadone to get more info on it. Other posts will pop up to give you more information. I'm not very well-versed in that particular med....just going by what I've heard from very knowledged folks here.
Also try seeking out other alternatives to avoiding withdrawal......Hopefully this forum will have some good input for you. Actually that would be a good new thread discussion to start....something like "How to avoid withdrawals"....and maybe others will chime in with some suggestions.
I'll keep an eye on your threads, cuz I may need to know more about this if I have a hard time getting off the lowest dose of the patch.....
Good Luck.
Rae
