Just wanted to throw this out here....
I am asking my psych doctor to prescribe a medication to help decrease urges and lead to less consumed alcohol. It is a gradual decrease in drinking. The action of the drug is to remove the chemical high from drinking. you take 50mg of naltrexone one hour before drinking and it helps you from drinking too much. It is called the sinclair method TSM. I understand that it does have potential side effects...need to check liver function tests and 10% chance for nausea. there are other side effects too..... but I am willing to try this. My binge drinking is getting worse. Usually I am able to have periods of abstinence if I decide to abstain...now it doesn't seem that I can go 2 days with out drinking and usually too much. I seem to have less control over my alcohol usage. bizi

Hi Bizi, my DB is on Campral right now, it seems to be working. He took Naltrexone 4 years ago, it is also called Revia. I can't recall if it helped and nor can he. But, apparently Revia is easier to manage as it is only 1 tablet a day and Campral is 6 tablets a day. Be well and be safe.

I just came upon this thread again some 2 years later.
My psych doctor finally agreed to prescribe naltrexone for me. I took it for 2 months and did not help. then we added zyprexa and it helped almost immediately. I did not have the urge to drink. now 2 months later and only have had 2 drinking days in 2 months I am starting to have cravings again. bizi

Bizi. only two drinking days in two months is a tremendous achievement - well done !
Do you think that keeping a daily mood diary might help? That way you might be able to spot the mood triggers which lead to cravings. This has helped me.
