Corn isn't as big overe here (obviously). I think most of what's produced locally is used for cattle chowder (but I'm not sure).

Still: imagine trying to Corn hole about a decade ago!

Second day in rehab, we had to throw a small ball against the wall, and then try to catch it again. A couple of folks either didn't make it to the wall, or looked baffled when the ball returned and passed them by. I've never felt so bad and laughed so hard at the same time.

are you at a substance rehab?
do you know how long you will be there?
Do you think this will help you?
I was in a psych unit for 30 days(march-april 2020).
I needed a medication change because geodon stopped working.
So I ended up on fewer meds than I took before.
Now on several psych meds with 3 prns to take at night to help me go to sleep. I mg of klonipin is not doing the job alone.
after a few days there I found out that I could go out for smoke break even though I don't smoke.
I sunbathed. It felt glorious to stand there in the sun. Even though I burned I did not care and took precaution next time. stood in the shade.
I wish you an easy ride while there.

Sorry for the confusion: I was there 9 years ago, for both alcohol and benzo abuse. I staid sober on the day before I went in, which was June 14th 2012.

FWIW, in total I spent 75 days there - 30 is a very short time to rewire the brain. This is (was) in Europe though, and was almost free. It was my first "try". The program was mostly CBT (cognitive behavior therapy).

And yes, it did help me, mainly because I wanted it to help me. Accepting help was the key. Hence why I'm now 9 years sober.

I can only speak for myself, but I think Icehouse would agree: I keep posting here to show it is indeed possible to get sober, even when you are completely down and out. And also as a way to be accountable.

Not saying it was easy - it wasn't, but it sure is today.

Default Introduction

Well, good afternoon. First, I want to say just how much there is to be amazed about reading through both the original thread and now part 2 on this site.

Some amazing stories of willpower, recovery, and progress.

I am starting to wonder if some of my pain issues are at least somewhat induced by alcohol. I have been a mostly weekend drinker for over 20 years. Lots of Saturdays and/or Sundays with too many while watching sports and/or tailgating may have caught up to me.

I know as I have read through things, and also started seeing some doctors, one thing that is absent from my symptoms for the most part is numbness/loss of sensation in feet and/or hands. Can one have alcoholic neuropathy without those sensations/feelings? I have a lot of muscle pain/weakness, mainly around the knees, shoulders, forearms, and calves, but again, not so much foot/hand weakness. I also have some mild autonomic type symptoms, too. I just finished seeing a rheumatologist without any remarkable findings in extensive bloodwork. I see a neurologist next week that I have actually seen in the past due to some adverse reactions to an antibiotic that I will expand on later, so that may tell me more at that time with another opinion.

I know I saw a brief reference to alcoholic myopathy by a poster Second Chances in part 2, which interestingly has many of the same symptoms, which is why I have wondered if that may be more of my issue, especially because I don't have the "classic" numbness sensations, but I was curious if some of you have had mainly weakness/lack of body resilience as the primary symptom?

I know I have found forums like these are a great source of information, and ironically nine years ago a similar forum helped me stumble onto the fact I was having a delayed reaction to an antibiotic. I even saw a brief discussion of adverse reactions to levaquin mentioned in part 1, so I identified with that poster. And ironically that antibiotic family has now been identified as one that can cause longterm nerve issues, too, so it's possible some of what I may be dealing with now may still be in conjunction to that, even nine years later.

But back to the present, earlier this spring/summer, I noticed that often a couple days after consuming alcohol, I would have increased pain, which is in part how I stumbled into google searches of alcoholic neuropathy/myopathy. I haven't had a binge level of alcohol since late May, and haven't had any alcohol at all since July 13th. I feel like things aren't getting any worse now, but certainly not seeing much improvement either. Some days feel pretty good, which often means I do more, and then some days aren't so good.

Anyway, that is my rambling story, and any feedback and thoughts from some of you would be very welcome. I know I have found that those who suffer similar maladies provide the best insight.

Welcome!
I am new to this forum and have not read thru like you have.
I am not even sure I should be posting.
my right foot 4and5th toes are numb and hurt some times.
I saw a neurologist for my memory issues and mentioned my toes and she ran her finger on them and dismissed me.
She did an MRI of my brain and then had a spinal tap done looking for alzheimers marker. I was fine.
I will try to read some of this thread.

One thing I find perusing threads is even if it doesn’t end up applying to me, I am still learning. If I do in fact have neuropathy, this is a new concept for me, and hearing from others with it is helpful when going to doctors with questions. And just the general empathy that people suffering with similar maladies can give each other.

As I mentioned, so far I don’t feel like I have the worst symptoms, but things have been progressing at least to a small degree the past few months.

Probably my biggest frustration right now is having been a very active person, trying not to overdo things on a day I am feeling better. My body doesn’t have the resilience it once did. But at least per some stories throughout the 100+ pages of posts, I have hope that things can get better, even if very slowly. If nothing else, if in fact the cause of things was alcohol, having stopped that hopefully means I have eliminated one possible cause to keep things from worsening.
