Welcome ajwinpain! I echo what Wide-O says and I emphasize trying to get off alcohol completely. Truth is, we don't need it and it only complicates things (mentally and physically). Good job on reading the WHOLE thread (both parts) as I am sure it's a lot of reading. I have never been part of a thread that lasted this long!! HAHA

For those who care, I am off for four days in the Smokie Mt's. Booked a log cabin with a hot tub and hope to get a a few miles of walking in...

Ice out!
First, congratulations on ten years plus now!

And yes, I have been seven weeks plus no alcohol, and based on this week alone being a little worse, I won’t be drinking again. I don’t want to get any worse and still hope by maybe catching this somewhat early, it might help with recovery. Although either way, I expect things will still likely be a slow process.

Enjoy the mountains! I look forward to a time where a hike sounds good again!

Sorry to be the new guy blowing up the thread, but I am curious for those active in the thread still, any thoughts on gabapentin? My neurologist mentioned it as an option.

I am always scared of new meds, especially as I had a really bad reaction to one nine years ago, and said med may be a factor in my issues now, even.

Again, appreciate any feedback. I know I saw caroline2 mention grape seed extract, and I never mind natural options.

Hey folks, sorry for not being present, I promise I'll make up, just going through a lot of bad stuff (not booze related).

I see even Icehouse hasn''t checked in this month yet! Tssk.

I'm at day 3400, and that's it. Despite a really bad situation for me, not a single fibre in my body longs for a drink. That, is a silver lining right there. 250 days to go to get to 10 years.

Yeah, when the date falls on the weekends I may be a little late

I don't get online much on the weekends, except for a little FB on my phone...

3715 days sober!

Built a firepit, and a 60ft x 3ft stone path, on the weekend. That meant shovelling two tonne of rock and smoothing it all out with a rake and shovel.

I'm so glad I can do this kind of work!!!

Wow, that much labor is amazing. I had been having a good month plus, but things are flaring back up for me. I don’t know if that is common with neuropathy or not.

I had a skin biopsy which did show small fiber neuropathy, so I am sure that is why drinking, even smaller amounts at times, wasn’t helping.

I am now pushing four months without drinking at all, so hopefully eliminating that will keep allowing more good stretches than bad over time. I don’t even miss the alcohol, especially knowing it may be a large part of the pain.

But again congrats to you on ten years plus! That is awesome!

Hopefully things are going better for you. Glad to hear your push to ten years is still intact.

As I just mentioned only three plus months in, I also don’t really care to ever have a drink again. As long as coffee continues to be okay, I will be good.

3750 days sober!

Sorry for the delay, I was in Florida for the last 10 days. Rented a beach house and did nothing but eat, ride bikes and enjoy the sun....

3774 days sober

Wife has me going to the gym three days a week - I think I am dying.
Hot tub was delivered this morning! Maybe that will make me forget the pain of the above.
It's getting cold. I don't miss Canada, but I do miss Florida about now.

Ice

Hi everyone,

New to this site and really worried I may have AIPN. 34 years old and have been a heavy weekend drinker since 20. Since covid my drinking picked up significantly, drinking on average a case of beer every weekend. Would abstain Monday-Thursday and then repeat. A few months ago I noticed significant fatigue, and most recently experiencing persistent calf twitching in both legs. No pain in my hands or feet, but my calf muscles are very tight all the time. I'm trying to get sober as I'm sure it's years of drinking catching up to me. Was sober for a month and symptoms seemed to be getting better. Last weekend I relapsed, and when I woke up my right leg was very numb from the knee down. My calves feel like they're they're going to spasm. I started a multi vitamin and have been drinking as much water and stretching as much as possible. If I stay sober and am committed, is there hope for me? Or worst case, is there any hope that if I stay sober my symptoms at least shouldn't expect to get any worse? I'm terrified and just looking for support and any advice, whether that be supplements, exercises, foods to eat or not eat, etc...

Yes.

Proper nutrition, eating healthy-ish, moderate exercise and abstaining is a great combination to beat this.
