Hi Richard!! I had the pleasure of welcoming you at the diabetes forum as well. Glad you are here with us! 24 years sober is wonderful!!! I have 8 years as does my hubby...we met in AA. I love this forum! It has gotten busier over the last year...I remember when I thought I was the only alcoholic here!!! I would start threads like....Is there any other alcoholics out there???? We have some great people here and hopefully this little corner of Neurotalk will continue to grow!!! Again, glad to have you aboard Richard!!

Hi Richard!
I'm going on 6months dry and sober on the 5th of November. Some days are not so bad, and others are just like....why me? Why can't I just have a lil something extra to take the edge off....everyone else is still able to....then I remember what a tailspin it was putting my emotions in during the several months leading up to my quitting. And I see where I am today....sobriety is indeed worth it! If it weren't so tough, everyone would be doing it? I'm glad you've found us!

but my health is bad, and I know it's from alcohol. I'm getting tests done next week, put I'm almost positive i have pancreatitis and i even have diabetes symptoms.
I'm already struggling from the 4 days of sobriety so far. I really enjoy drinking, but i have to stop until i figure out whats wrong with me. Even then, I may have to quit. I'm really bored, were any of you social drinkers who ended up drinking way too much? What did you do when you quit? I drank about 5-6 days a week, mostly socially, sometimes way too much. I 've been out (to bars) all 4 days I quit, just didn't drink. I can resist the temptation OK, but now bars suck. All my frinds like bars. What can I do? |

Shijo,
I know it's tough to want to quit, but YOU are worth the effort, especially since you're going through some health issues. Alcohol can really wreek havoc with our bodies. Sorry this is especially tough since this is a way of life, and how you spend time with friends. Right now might be a good chance to go to a meeting and meet some new friends. It's all about making a day to day decision to not drink. Best of Luck.

Believe me my friends its for the first time when I see people who have been alcohol addicts showing the spirit to overcome the habit. Sharing thoughts with the other members must have helped a lot in this quest.
My problem is owing to my brother who is an alcoholic and he does not make any attempts to overcome his habit despite of our tries and the full support extended to him. Perhaps those of you who have managed to triumph over the dreaded addiction can give me some suggestions about the ways I can motivate him back in the right track. Looking forward to your comments. |
