Thumbs Up

I just wanted to add my congrats to you all and cheer you on! It is hard in the beginning but believe me it does get easier over time! Keep your sights set on the end goal of good health, more money for other things ... etc. You know all the good things.

Give yourself a pep talk whenever necessary. Also, this sounds goofy I know, but look in the mirror and smile as big as you can, and laugh out loud. It releases endorphins and helps to lift your mood.

It's a tough struggle, but it's also one of the most proud accomplishments you'll have with you for years to come (quitting).

One situation where quitters are winners!

Hi Anne! I am OK. Icould not do it! I started smoking again.I gained 6 pounds and felt awful....the patch was making me tired every day...I could not handle the withdrawl when I dropped down to the lower dosage. I will stop again.I cannot believe how much better my breathing got!
Thank you again for all the support...I think I will attack it again soon...when it is a little milder out...I can getout and walk then....we have been getting temps like-28 degrees here! Take Care...I am off to bed!!

Even Rome wasn't built in a day Dorrie!

Please know that I don't feel any worse of you just because this time you didn't make it, and no-one else will either!

I tried so many times over the years, that I lost count. One day it was the right day for me, and that's the difference. One day it will be the right day for you as well.

Please don't feel that you've disappointed anyone Dorrie. You had a go, and that shows guts. The time just wasn't right, that's all! When that day comes for you, I'll be here again to back you all the way.

Sending you love 'n' hugs........

Thanks Anne. That makes me feel better.I do feel as if I have disappointed everyone...especially my Saffire. But I will do it.I have heard that it takes people many attempts. This was my 2nd attempt....I do not want to take too many times. I really did feel good about not smoking....the withdrawl and weight gain won out though...this time. You are a very kind person to have posted that post to me Anne....thankyou

C'mon, Dorrie: YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Maybe a visualization technique would help. Perhaps when you think of bringing a cigarette to your lips, imagine it going up to Saffy's mouth instead.

Hi dorrie It's SO good of you to know you're going to try again soon. All quitting takes is one successful try.

One thing that helped me when I KNEW I just HAD to have something moving from hand to mouth was holding a soda straw I had cut to about a 3" length. I "smoked" that empty, plastic straw until the need calmed down.

I gained weight too and my doctors (I was seeing a bunch) all said it didn't matter ---- What mattered was me quitting and that the weight would go away. Very slowly the weight did start to drop off.

I'll be holding you in my heart and wishing you the best.
