Default Hi mom of DD w/allergies

Hi all!

I had to have my DD 6 tested on Thursday because she is constantly congested. She tested positive for 12 different allergies .

The only allergy I have is to long stem red roses, so I'm new to this.

She is allergic to:

dust mites: she rated a 1

mold, 2 different kinds, I know one is in decaying house plants, and I forgot the name of the other one: also 1 on each of these

Hay: a 2

mugwort: a 1

pine: a 3

oak: a 2

birch trees: a 2

ash: a 1

burning wood, I guess it is actually the decay in it but she said burning distributes it in the air more: her only 4

penicillin, we knew this one: a 1

cats: a 2

egg whites, this one surprised us because she loves omlettes but I guess it is mild: a 1

They felt she had congestion so much because there are so many, more so than the severity of any one imparticular. They gave us some literature to go thru with tips to try to reduce some of them.

They also wants me to keep her on the loradideen, Claritin, year round.

I'm so new to this and it is a little daunting.

I was so irritated with my MIL because even though I told her how the burning wood was the worst when my DD made a comment about how my SIL shouldn't have a fire when she's there any more, she started in on, oh its not that big a deal the window sill in your basement that needs to be replaced is worse blah blah blah...

It's not that I expect that everyone should give up their fireplaces or anything its just she "decided' that the burning wasn't a big deal ugh. Hello did you talk to the expert? I thought not! Any who sorry I had to get that off my chest .

So any tips you all have would be really appriciated. Thanks

I don't have much to contribute in the way of allergy information but wanted to say we have a wood burning stove; and it really bothers my father's allergies. When we know he is planning to visit, we put out the fire and clean up the ash before hand. I think that is just common courtesy.

I have a nephew that is allergic to many things... Milk, Eggs, Cantalope.... These are the severe ones... 4+... he has many lower level ones... I can relate to how you feel...

I don't understand your SIL... We just don't have or cook with Milk or Eggs while he's here... it was easy... should be when you love someone...

My niece...his little sister is allergic to fresh pineapple.... she hasn't been tested yet but there will likely be others...

Best wishes to your daughter... I hope she grows out of these...

It was my MIL that got all touchy about it, I don't know about SIL yet. My MIL always gets touchy if you even think about something that might disrupt what SIL wants .

Its a bad habit she got into and she is paying for it now .

I hope DD out grows it too! Thanks

My son also had severe food and enviromental allergies and allergic to all antibiotics so I know what you are going through. Please check out websites for asthma as they have a lot of good info that will be useful to you. Room air cleaners are really great, your child should have one in her room running 24hrs a day. There are covers for mattresses and pillows. Suggest that your relative get an air cleaner for when you go over, call ahead so they can start it before you get there. Try a nettie pot, you fill it with warm salt water to cleanse the nose. She is old enough for this, it helped mine and he was younger. Marilyn

Almost forgot. There are special vacuums for allergy problems also. Get as many room air cleaners as you can and get them bigger than you need if you can put them through out the house it would be best. Put a wood or lino floor in the bedroom where she sleeps. I know it sounds like a lot, just do a little at a time. Been there, done it all and even more. Stay strong, get as much info as you can, try mothers of asthematics to start. You can do this after awhile it becomes normal, at least to us. Good Luck to you Marilyn
