Benefit for AuSable Forks resident Johnny Nixon slated Saturday

Posted on: Tuesday, June 26, 2007

SARANAC LAKE — A benefit is being held Saturday, June 30 in a continuing effort to assist Johnny Nixon, 29, of AuSable Forks, in defraying his medical expenses while fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Several events are scheduled at the Riverside Bowling Lanes in Au Sable Forks, including:

¯Breakfast, from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

¯Flea market, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

¯Bike rally, registration at 10 a.m.; leaving at 11 a.m.

¯Car wash, from noon to 4 p.m.

¯9-Pin bowling tournament, at 1, 4, and 7 p.m.

¯Michigans served from 1 to 6 p.m.

¯Auction from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

¯Live entertainment, from 1 to 11 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend and support Johnny Nixon and his wife Lindsey, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child. An athlete in high school, Nixon was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, a progressive, fatal disease of the muscle-controlling nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.

The disease first affects legs, arms and/or throat and mouth muscles but ultimately affects all voluntary muscles, resulting in paralysis.

For more information about the benefit, call Julie at 647-8372.
