Trophy Drink Bitchin' Bitter to help former CBC head brewer Darryl Goss fight ALS

Drink Bitchin' Bitter to help former CBC head brewer Darryl Goss fight ALS

Beer News posted by Todd / 07-03-2007

He was probably brewing before many of you got into (better) beer, but Darryl Goss was the brewer at Cambridge Brewing Company (CBC) for most of the 90s and was recently diagnosed with ALS.

This just came in from his friend Geoff Larsen, my pal, friend of Darryl and ex-resident of the People's Republic of Cambridge:

--

Help support former Cambridge Brewing Company head brewer Darryl Goss and the ALS-TDI 2007 Tri-State Trek!

For every pint of CBC’s Bitchin’ Bitter, first created by CBC brewer Darryl Goss in 1991, CBC will donate 50 cents towards Darryl and his team of riders as they participate in this year’s Tri-State Trek.

Darryl Goss, CBC Head Brewer from 1990 thru 1997, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in February 2006. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. From July 20th thru July 22nd, 2007, Darryl, his partner Robin, and several family members and friends will make the 270 mile trek from Boston to New York, to cure ALS and support the ALS Therapy Development Institute, right here in Kendall Square, Cambridge.

Your purchase of each pint of CBC’s Bitchin’ Bitter will help further Darryl’s fundraising goal of $7,000.

Additional information on ALS can be found at http://www.als.net

More on the Tri-State Trek is available at http://www.tristatetrek.com

To donate directly to Darryl Goss’s TST Team, go to http://www.active.com/donate/Trek2007/d0goss

Thank you for your support!

If anyone is up for planning a Bitchin' Bitter drinking session ... post here or drop me a beer mail. I think it'd be a great way to rally and show some support.

Thanks,

Todd

Benefit raises $39,000 for Ludlow resident
Wednesday, July 04, 2007
LUDLOW - A recent benefit golf tournament and dinner for Ludlow resident Dave Monette generated $39,000 in proceeds.

Last fall, Monette was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, it is a progressive neuromuscular disease that weakens and eventually destroys components of the nervous system. There is no cure for this awful, debilitating disease.

According to event organizer and chairman Ed Demetrion, the fund-raiser exceeded expectations.

"We had a terrific response. The outpouring of generosity and support for Dave speaks for itself, and we appreciate very much everyone who participated to help make this event so successful for Dave," Demetrion said.

Some 216 people participated in the golf tournament, which was held at Chicopee Country Club. Later, more than 550 friends, relatives, neighbors and business associates attended a sit-down dinner at Cottage Hill Banquet House in Springfield. The dinner included a raffle with the top prize being a pair of Boston Red SoxNew York Yankees box seat tickets behind home plate this fall.

A live auction featuring sports memorabilia and various golf packages was conducted by Dave Douglas. Numerous door prizes were given away throughout the evening.

Because the disease is progressing quickly, Monette, a 45-year veteran of the printing industry, lifelong sports enthusiast and member of the over-50 softball team Western Massachusetts Relics, recently retired from Bassette Printers in Springfield.

He's a veteran of the Army Special Forces and served in the Vietnam War with more than 50 parachute jumps to his credit.

"My wife and I are overwhelmed by this turnout," Monette said. "We are very grateful to everyone who helped us. Words just cannot describe how we feel. Thank you."

Monette and his wife, Marilyn, have lived in Ludlow for more than 30 years and last month celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their daughter, Lynn, lives and works in the Boston area.

To contribute, make checks payable to Dave Monette Benefit Golf Tournament and mail to Country Bank, 2379 Boston Road, Wilbraham, MA 01095.

For information, call Ed Demetrion at (413) 626-7737.
