Kittanning resident re-elected to dystrophy post
Monday, July 23, 2007

A Kittanning man has been re-elected a national vice president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
During MDA’s July 13 annual meeting in Los Angeles, Ron Olszewski was named to a new one-year term as a national vice president of the association. MDA vice presidents use their areas of expertise to support the programs and activities of association.

Olszewski is the president of Franklin Foods, in Kittanning.

“MDA is fortunate to have Ron Olszewski in its corner,” MDA President and CEO Gerald C. Weinberg said. “His talent and dedication contributes immensely to the association’s mission of finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy and other muscle-wasting diseases.”

MDA is working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of research, services and professional and public health education, he added.
MDA maintains 225 clinics nationwide, including clinics at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The latter is the site of an MDA/ALS Center for research and treatment of those with Lou Gehrig’s disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS).

The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon will be broadcast Sept. 2-3, originating from the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in Las Vegas. It can be seen on WPXI-TV, Channel 11, in Western Pennsylvania.
