Ark City woman dies after recovery last fall
By FOSS FARRAR Traveler Staff Writer An Arkansas City woman who suffered from Lou Gehrig's disease died Monday at Medicalodge North Post-Acute Center. She had made a remarkable comeback last fall when she began speaking again after a year and a half of being unable to do so. Delores K. Glaze, 61, died from the normal progression of the disease, a nurse at the care center said today. She had surprised Medicalodge staff, family and friends when she began speaking in complete sentences on Halloween last year. A nurse on duty at the time she first spoke, thanking her for the bath the nurse had given her. "It brought tears to my eyes," she said. "It was such a long sentence." Glaze called her recovery "the miracle of my life," during an interview with members of her family surrounding her. Her recovery was the second to be termed "miraculous" at the Medicalodge during 2005 and 2006. In 2005, Tracy Gaskill spoke her first words in nearly three years after suffering critical internal and head injuries in a traffic accident. The nurse said today that Gaskill is doing fine, and continues "speaking and singing." Services for Glaze will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. http://www.arkcity.net/stories/082207/com_0004.shtml
