ALS Family Ties
Monday, Sep 17, 2007 - 11:53 AM ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a killer disease that often is too far along to be treated once it's diagnosed. Now, researchers are trying to track down the roots of the disease. Researchers have long known ALS has two variations, including one that runs in families. Past research shows those cases share a specific gene. Researchers are now recruiting for their study looking at the familial ALS. They are talking to people who come from families where there are at least two family members who are affected with ALS. They are asking them to send researchers a genetic sample, by providing a saliva sample. If you think your family carries the disease and you are interested in helping with the research, call 1-888-413-9315. For information about the study, log onto http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Then, type the trial identification number into the search box: NCT00317616. http://www.wtvq.com/midatlantic/tvq/...9-17-0006.html
