Tokyo, Sept 25, 2007 (Jiji Press) - Hitachi Ltd. <6501> said Tuesday it has upgraded its "Den-no-shin" personal computer-based communications aid for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis sufferers.

The new product's software runs on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Vista operating system and has a better user interface, with enhanced functions to help users make written communications, access the Internet and use e-mail. DVD functions were also added, Hitachi said.

The new system including a DVD drive-equipped PC and a printer is priced at 450,000 yen. The company will receive orders from November.
