Angler wants to be fish food
Wednesday, October 3, 2007 Fishing, but without using human flesh A prize-winning fishing enthusiast is to take his love of angling beyond the grave – he's asked for his remains to be used as bait when he dies. That way, Pete Hodge hopes, his fishing friends will be able to celebrate his life by using bits of his dead body to catch more fish. Hodge, 61, suffers from Motor Neurone Disease – but that hasn't stopped him winning hundreds of angling competitions and becoming a national champion. ![]() Pete's plan is that his remains will be mixed into groundbait for his friends to use, rather than asking them to force small strips of his flesh onto their hooks. Groundbait is a mixture put in the water by anglers to attract fish to the area they're preparing to fish – and many fishermen guard their recipes jealously. The Sun reports that Hodge said of his plan: 'It may sound strange but this is my dream. I hope my friends make me proud with their catches.' http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article...8&in_page_id=2

Tonight, he sleeps in the fishes
By VIRGINIA WHEELER October 03, 2007 COMMENT ON THIS STORY A CHAMPION angler is to be turned into FISH FOOD when he dies. Terminally-ill Pete Hodge, 61, has arranged for his remains to be made into bait so his riverbank mates can enjoy a bumper catch. So instead of “sleeping with the fishes” — a phrase made famous by The Godfather when a mobster was dumped in the sea — he will go one better by sleeping IN the fishes. Pete, who has motor neurone disease, is a national champ and winner of hundreds of competitions. His ashes will be “balled in” as groundbait mix by pals at the Huntspill River near Bridgewater, Somerset. He said: “It may sound strange but this is my dream. To be back in the river catching fish is where I belong. “I hope my friends make me proud with their catches.” Pete has already had a coffin made — fashioned as a giant wicker fishing basket. Ben Weir, of Angler’s Mail, said: “No one has turned themselves into fish bait before.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007450843,00.html
