Walter is king of the road
By Naoise O' Donovan Coogan It seems that the PDs are more popular in Carlow than they are in the rest of the country, which local councillor Walter Lacey clearly proved with his recent win. The popular councillor has comes out tops in the Eigse 'Your Our Star' fundraiser which was held in the Dolman Hotel last week. Cllr Lacey was singing for The Motor Neuron Disease Association and he set hearts a-beating with his throaty rendition of 'King of the road'. He was chosen as the most popular performer by the 400 audience members in attendance. Each person who had an entry ticket had a vote in the competition which was hotly contested by sixteen other acts. Several local public representatives were involved in the competition including Rody Kelly and Jennifer Murnane O' Conner and Town Clerk, Joe Watters also took part in the talent show for Self Help in Hacketstown. There were also two judges prizes of €500 each which went to Rosanna Moratti who sang for the Delta Centre and John Wynne who was singing in aid of the Make A Wish Foundation. A special prize was also donated on the night by the Music Factory which offered one of the contestants the opportunity to record a CD in a recording studio for the contestant's chosen charity. However, the judges found this decision too difficult and it was decided that all of the contestants would come together and sing 'Feed the World' together in studio to raise money for the individual charities. However, Walter Lacey was the clear hero of the night and his charity received a cheque for €2,000. http://www.kilkennyadvertiser.ie/index.php?aid=8365
