Dr. Paul Cox to discuss study on toxin, Lou Gehrig's disease in Palm Beach
Click-2-Listen Saturday, February 09, 2008 The Institute for Science and Health will present a luncheon program at noon Monday on research about Lou Gehrig's disease. It will be held at the Beach Club, 755 N. County Road. The speaker will be Paul Cox, a researcher and expert on ALS. He earned his doctorate from Harvard University and was named one of Time magazine's "Heroes of Medicine" for his 25 years of research on new medicines from plants used by traditional healers in the Pacific and Southeast Asia. Cox will discuss the results of an extensive study that indicates a common, widely present toxin might be the key to finding the cause of ALS, Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative illnesses. Cox's research in regions with high rates of ALS indicates a common denominator, an environmental neurotoxin that may act as a trigger for the illness. Cox studied individual toxin effects and how it combines with other chemicals in the body to cause serious motor damage in some people. He also is working on a non-intrusive test to enable rapid screening. Tickets are $45, or $400 for a table of 10. To sign up, contact Teresa Dailey at 969-7519. — STEPHANIE MURPHY http://www.palmbeachdailynews.com/ne...IEFdoc209.html
