Ribbon Dedicated man finishes his book

Dedicated man finishes his book

By Joe Palladino
When he first told me he was writing a book, I thought he was crazy.

He wrote this book on a computer even though he cannot type. He could not use voice-recognition software because he cannot speak. Using a program called ERICA (eye-gaze response interface computer system) that allows him to move the cursor via a retinal scan, it took him two days to complete a manuscript page.

Paul Szantyr's work ethic never flagged, even when he was hospitalized and placed on a ventilator. After two years, this personal tome of more than 60,000 words that tells the story of a man's courageous desire to control his own destiny, called, “How Does A Red Sox Fan Get Lou Gehrig's Disease,” is finally complete.

I never thought he'd finish. Paul, I am sorry I doubted you.
