Judge receives honor for volunteerism
The Examiner Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Jay Daugherty has been selected to receive the first George Brett Award for Commitment, ALS Association Keith Worthington Chapter. The award will be presented to Daugherty at the 19th Annual Night of Hope Banquet tonight, at the Sheraton Overland Park Convention Center for his extraordinary service and commitment to the ALS Association. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis - often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease" - is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. During his 23 years of service to the association, Daugherty has served as President of the Board of Directors of the Keith Worthington Chapter and a National Board of Trustees member since 1995. He became involved with the ALS Association because he wanted to do something in memory of his father, who passed away in 1974 from ALS. This is the first year of the awards and the 30th Anniversary of the Keith Worthington Chapter. For more information on the ALS Association Keith Worthington Chapter, contact Sally Dwyer at 913-648-2062, Ext. 212. From staff reports
