Ribbon An Artist’s Passion Continues to Grow

An Artist’s Passion Continues to Grow
With A Daughter’s Helping Hands

In August 2006, San Clemente resident Jerry Schoenfeld was diagnosed with Gulf War -related ALS. The disease cut short his ability to continue his love of painting, which he had intended to be a second career, after retiring from a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy. Within months of diagnosis, the debilitating effects of the disease left him without the muscle strength to hold a brush or paint. Then, on Father's Day 2007, Jerry's 13 year-old daughter, Ashley gave him a gift of love. She offered her hands to him so that he could continue to pursue his passion as an artist. Ashley committed her summer vacation last year to working and painting under her father’s careful direction. Ashley spent an average of five hours a day diligently learning the technique of giclee’ painting and then applying brush to canvas according to Jerry’s creative vision. From this inspiring collaboration, GAS Art was born - for Gerald/Ashley/Schoenfeld.

Jerry and Ashley have received a great deal of local media attention. Just recently, they received well-merited national attention, when they were contacted by the Disney Channel’s Teen News for a program scheduled to air this spring. Their work is sought after by collectors and has been commissioned for private homes and offices across the U.S. and beyond. You can visit their website at http://www.gasarthome.com/.
