Pedestrian Arrested After Finding Body Off 405 Fwy

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
The pedestrian reported the body to a CHP officer at about 11:30 a.m., according to the CHP. It was located off of the ramps at the southwest corner of the Wilshire Blvd. interchange, within sight of the Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles Medical Center.
A body found near the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Westwood was identified as that of a 59-year-old man who refused medical help and walked out of the hospital a few days ago when told he was suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease.

Thomas Francis Leamy was found in some brush alongside the San Diego (405) Freeway near Wilshire Boulevard about 11:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a coroner's investigator. Family members had reported him missing.

A man stopped by a California Highway Patrol officer for walking along the freeway alerted authorities to the the body.

"The male, in his 50s, had been a patient at the veterans hospital," sheriff's Deputy Oscar Butao said. "He'd signed a waiver saying he didn't want to be treated for an unspecified medical condition, then he left."

The man who alerted the CHP to the body reportedly was arrested for refusing to identify himself and being on the freeway illegally.
