Lou Gehrig's disease hasn't kept man from 'going wide open'
Friday, April 3 ( updated 1:08 pm) By Jennifer Fernandez Staff Writer Harold Johnson uses a computer to generate speech, including his frequent jokes, after losing his voice to ALS — Lou Gehrig’s disease. GREENSBORO — A degenerative disease may have stolen Harold Johnson’s voice, but not his joy of life. Johnson learned he had ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, in November 2007. Since then, he’s gone skydiving and driven a race car at 180 mph.
